Project Summary

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading humanitarian organization that provides protection, livelihoods, and emergency assistance to displaced populations worldwide. It (co)hosts four data-focused initiatives aimed at improving the availability and quality of humanitarian data: the Data Entry and Exploration Platform (DEEP), Joint IDP Profiling Service (JIPS), Protection Information Management (PIM), and the Mixed Migration Centre (MMC).

To support DRC with assessing the strategic value, future objectives, and its role in supporting these initiatives, Nurai reviewed the current and potential value of these initiatives for DRC and the wider humanitarian community, and analyzed factors affecting their progress. Insights came from 20 interviews with DRC and entity staff, partners and donors, plus a desk review. The report presented findings as a gap analysis, providing an overview of the current value, reflecting on the potential value and concerns, and outlining ‘pathways to potential’ as a means for overcoming those barriers.

The findings provided a clear overview of each initiative’s value, highlighted challenges, and outlined actionable ‘pathways to potential’ to enhance their impact. The final report included key results, learning reflections, and discussion questions to support decision-making.
