Description
The Re-investment Strategy guided GCERF's work in Nigeria, informed three projects between April 2019 and December 2021. These projects were conducted in the north-central region by ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) in Kogi and Nasarawa, Women Environmental Programme (WEP) in Benue, and the Institute for Governance and Social Research (IGSR) in Plateau. The strategy aimed to reduce vulnerability to recruitment by equipping individuals with skills to assess social and economic alternatives to violent extremism offers, provide alternatives, and strengthen community agency to address threats proactively. The ex-post evaluation was a unique experience as ex-posts are rare to begin with but it was also interesting in its comprehensive methodological approach comprising surveys, interviews, focus group discussions and case studies. The study was conducted through a combination of remote and in-person data collection approaches. The thematic areas involved ranged from community mobilization, to youth advocacy, to livelihoods training and business support.
